Happy Mother’s Day!

I wrote this post 9 years ago, and it is still relevant today

I have joined another Mah Jongg group, we play on Monday nights.  We have been playing together for 5 years and have a special bond.

Thank you Mom for introducing me to this fabulous game. It has introduced me to more than you can imagine!!

As long as I can remember my mother played Mah Jongg.  Saturday and Wednesday during the day, Monday in the evening.  During the day they would arrive at around 11:00 eat lunch, and then play for most of the day.  They took turns playing at each others homes, and served very nice lunches.  In particular they would serve what we “the kids” referred to as Mah Jongg candy.  Chocolate lentils, jujubes twizzlers, nonpareils(like snowcaps), nuts and something that looked liked gumdrops and jimmes that was called bridge mix. Of course there was an obligatory jello mold here and there.  Well at least when my Mom was the hostess. Monday nights they didn’t start playing until 8:00pm, and played into the late hours.  Johnny Carson was almost over by the time “the girls”, thats how they would referrer to themselves, left.  I’m not sure if you know how the game is played.  It is a chinese tile game.  I think there are 144 tiles consisting of 8 jokers, 8 flowers 4 0f each dragon red white and green 4 of each NEWS wind and 4 of each 1-9 “suit”, crack bam and dots.  There are about 40 hands on an official Mah Jongg card.  Each person is dealt 13 tiles except east, they get 14.  Kind of like gin.  The first person to make one of the hands on the card wins that game and collects money. My mother played with her groups of friends for at least 30 years, they were a very big part of her and my life!  They all shared every milestone together, their own,  and their children’s, and counted on each other for support.  They always sat at the same seat when they started a game and continued to be life long friends.  Unfortunately my mother was the first one from her group to pass on. They were all there for her, and she counted on them to get he through some of the worst times.

Today, I have my own Mah jongg group. We may only play once week, but we too have a bond.  We haven’t been playing together for 30 years yet, but I know we will be there for each other, just as my Mom’s friends were there for her.

The reason for this evenings post…..Tonight, there was a Mah Jongg tournament at one of our local synagogues, I won $100.  It made me think of my Mom and I just wanted to share.

P.S. I came in second last week, prize $50.
🙂

my, how time FLYS!

I can’t believe today is the 22nd of December, and it’s almost 2015!

It seems like yesterday when we dropped off our freshman son off at college and my daughter left for her semester abroad to Australia (we got to visit her in November).

Remember when you were a kid. The school days passed by so slowly, and the summers ran by us full speed. Those days are just passing memories now.

First, I want to apologize for not being up to date on all your posts. It’s not for lack of interest! For some reason, my notification emails are not getting to me. I have looked, I still am following all of you, so not sure what is going on.  It really makes it easy when you have an email to click on! I just don’t get to my reader like I used to. I’m just too busy being busy.

I want to thank all my fellow bloggers for all the support over the years. I have (virtually) met so many kind, smart, interesting and helpful people in this blogging world.

Happy Holidays and a Healthy New YEAR!

are you ready for some FOOTBALL

are you ready for some FOOTBALL

I love watching football, IF the Patriots are playing. Last Sunday we had the opportunity not only to go to the game, but, also to be on the field while the teams were warming up. I made sure I had my camera, 2 charged batteries,  extra memory cards, and I also brought my 100-400m lens. Unfortunately I dropped it at the security table and it BROKE :(.

We arrived at Gillette Stadium 2 hours early. We wanted to get to the tables close to the windows in the Putnam Club. We figured we could use it as a basecamp to warm up. It snowed on Sunday, was really cold, and all the seats were damp and cold!

The Patriots were played the Broncos. It was an exciting game to watch, lots of action from both teams. We even got to see a trick play that didn’t go very well. Third down and long yardage, the Patriots lined up to punt. Then the whole Special teams ran off the field with the Bronco’s falling in suit. Unfortunately the Offense Line didn’t get back in time to execute the play.  It really was a sight to see!

Here are some highlights from the day. The Patriots won 43-21. We had a great time.

another minted.com POST

Here I am sitting at my computer. I got an email from Minted.com. (this is the site where I have entered my pictures in some contests and actually have won, and sold some), reminding me that voting has begun for the last contest I had entered.

I went to the minted.com site and what did I see?

Screen Shot 2014-09-05 at 12.42.15 PM

My picture, right there on the front page of their website. I was shocked and pretty surprised. I sent a link to my husband, and he told me when he went to their site, he was directed to a different home page, not the one that I had been directed to. I was reminded how sophisticated internet direct marketing can be. Everything you do online can been seen, and companies will take advantage of that!  They show you what they think you want to see.  Increasing the odds that you may buy what you were, looking at previously.

So, the point of this is not to rant about what gets shown to who and why. It’s another plea for your help, and ask you again to vote for ME.

These are the images I have submitted these pictures.

Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it!
